EV chargers
Charge your car at home. English-speaking electricians who check your power, fit the wallbox and protect the circuit.
Signs you need an electrician
- You have, or are buying, an electric or plug-in hybrid car
- You charge from an ordinary socket and it takes all night
- You have a garage, a driveway or a space in a shared garage
- You want charging to use cheaper night-time electricity
What the electrician does
- Checks your contracted power and the fuse box
- Runs a dedicated cable with its own RCD and breaker
- Fits and sets up the wallbox, with load management if needed
- Tells you what the condominium needs to know in a shared garage
Before the electrician comes
Note your car model and the wallbox you like, if you have chosen one.
Measure roughly the distance from the fuse box or meter to the parking space.
In a building, tell the condominium administrator you plan to install a charger.
What it costs
Every electrician sends a written price, with IVA, before any work starts. You can compare up to three.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need more power?
Often a 7.4 kW wallbox fits a 6.9 kVA contract with load management. Your electrician checks, and tells you if you should ask your supplier for more.
Can I install one in a shared garage?
Yes. Portuguese law lets you install a charger in your own space in a shared garage. You must tell the condominium in writing first; the electrician can help with the details.
How much does it cost?
A wallbox fitted usually comes to €900 to €1,800 including the charger, before IVA. A long cable run or a fuse box upgrade adds to it.
