Before the electrician comes
Buy the lights you want, or ask the electrician to supply them in the quote.

Take a photo of each place where a light will go.
What it costs
Every electrician sends a written price, with IVA, before any work starts. You can compare up to three.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there only wires in the ceiling?
In Portugal homes are often sold or rented without light fittings, just the wires (os fios). An electrician fits your lights safely, with the earth connected.
Can I change a light myself?
Changing a bulb, yes. Fitting a light means working on the wiring. Switch off the breaker first, and if in doubt ask an electrician.
How much does it cost?
Fitting a ceiling light usually costs €30 to €60 per light before IVA, less when there are several. Outdoor lights with a new cable often cost €100 to €250.
