Signs you need an electrician
- You are fitting air conditioning or a heat pump
- The power trips when the air conditioning starts
- The unit is plugged into an extension lead
- You are adding units in more rooms
What the electrician does
- Runs a dedicated circuit with its own breaker and RCD
- Checks your contracted power can take the extra load
- Fits an isolator switch next to the outdoor unit
- Works with your air conditioning installer on the day
Before the electrician comes
Note the model and power (kW) of each unit, from the installer's quote.
Mark where the indoor and outdoor units will go.
In a flat, check the condominium rules for outdoor units on the façade.
What it costs
Every electrician sends a written price, with IVA, before any work starts. You can compare up to three.
Frequently asked questions
Can air conditioning use an ordinary socket?
Small portable units can. Fixed split units should have their own circuit, so the power does not trip and the cable does not overheat.
Do I need more power?
Several units, an oven and a water heater running together can exceed a small contract. Your electrician checks and tells you.
How much does it cost?
A dedicated circuit for one unit usually costs €150 to €400 before IVA, depending on the cable length and the fuse box.
